Well mental illness is a whole spectrum. It doesn't mean you're crazy. A lot of people would say that and it's a misnomer. They're basically people with a lack of education. I think everybody has been touched by the paralyzing effects of, like, depression and instability, like bi-polar disorder. Mental illness can cause people to be very fearful like with an anxiety disorder; they can be disorganized and paranoid and confused, dementia and psychosis...we have substance abuse, we have drugs and alcohol (people using that all the time) unhealthy coping mechanisms, there are personality disorders, schizophrenia, people hear and see things that aren't there, they're very disorganized, paranoid. They need medication basically to bring 'em down...The amount of therapy you give them is not gonna be effective. They have to have anti-psychotic medication and we have personality disorders we' ch- anti social where people have no remorse, they have no empathy for other people. There's borderline personality, where people re-create chaotic relationships in their lives and these are things that have to be sta- they stay with people forever and they're very very difficult to treat. Mental health affects everybody. I mean, most people that have a break (what they call "a break") um is usually when somebody is going away to school or somebody has a divorce in their early 20's and what happens is if everything's right there, there's a stressor such as a divorce or a difficulty at school will cause them to have a break. That's when they'll first show that they have signs of mental illness. Our society's so stressful nowadays. We have so much stress going on, just financial problems...The information age: we have so much information available to us and with all this information. There's stress because we have trouble assimilating all that information. Years ago, we had to take 30 days to mail a letter around the world. Now we turn on a computer and we can see a tornado happening as we speak. So although we have all that information, it is stressful to assimilate all that correctly and that's what a lot of it- the problems are going happening now.
